Preparations for Isle of Man’s 100 Mile Walk Challenge

The Isle of Man 100-Mile Challenge that is sponsored by Tower Insurance, Microgaming, Castletown Commissioners, Shoprite, RL350, Southern 100 Motor Cycle Racing Club and Business Doctor IM, is scheduled to take place over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, 15th and 16th August, 2015.

This year’s Isle of Man 100-Mile Challenge is expected to be the most ambitions edition and will be held over 50 laps of a two-mile course round the Isle of Man’s ancient capital of Castletown.

Entries for the event have already closed and almost 100 competitors are expected to converge on Castletown for the main event from across the UK and as far away as Australia, Netherlands, USA, South Africa, France and Belgium.

Although it was originally hoped that the walk would incorporate the entire main square area as a race hub and headquarter, this idea has now been revised due to the current regeneration project.

The organizing team leader, Robbie Callister, said that in the interests of safety, it has been necessary to apply for a number of road closures and that everyone has been very understanding and supportive thus far. He added that they are aiming to make it as hassle-free as possible and will have marshals on all the major junctions and crossing points in order to assist the general public.

There will also be a community relay for general members of the public from Castletown and surrounding areas which will be a single two-mile lap as part of a 50-strong relay over the same 24-hour period.

A 20-mile Dawn Walk which is open to local senior, veteran and junior walkers as well as any visiting walkers that wish to participate will commence early o Sunday morning. There is also the possibility of a 50-mile event.

The 100-mile Challenge event will also receive help from the Civil Defense and St John Ambulance.
